Female suffrage in Sweden. : A comparison between the journals Idun and Hertha . (English)
Abstract [en]
The purpose of the survey is to further examine how the argument was made around women's suffrage in Sweden and whether there was a change in the argumentation over time. The investigation further examines the argumentation in the magazine Idun and compares it with the magazine Hertha. The investigation and comparison takes place on articles from 1914–1919.
- How did the writers in the magazine argue?- Were the majority men or women who wrote the newspaper articles?
- How much space did these columns get in the newspaper articles, were they limited?
- How do the newspapers differ in their reporting?
In the survey, a content analysis of the sourcematerial will be carried out as in the previous survey. A content analysis is used to be able to draw conclusions about the content of, for example, newspaper articles as in this case. When it comes to content analysis, there are two different directions which are either qualitative or quantitative. The sourcematerial used in the survey is from the Gothenburg University Library, where they have a database of newspaper articles. The website has, among other things, older digitized magazines and in this case older women's magazines are used.In the articles, the argument was given a relatively large place in the newspaper. The articles also differed in that Idun had more argumentation than Hertha had as they used more news reports, interviews and so on.
