Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to examine the reuse of old industrial buildings and how cultural heritage is integrated into the development of the area. More specifically I have examined the Gamla Motala Verkstad in Motala, Sweden. A selection of written and visual material was chosen from different actors taking part in the development of Gamla Motala Verkstad. A content analysis was then conducted to interpret the chosen material. The result shows the perspectives of the different actors, the arguments used by the actors and how history and heritage is used in the development of Gamla Motala Verkstad. The study shows that heritage and history often become resources when developing old industrial buildings. The study also concludes that the development of Gamla Motala Verkstad is motivated by growth in population, growing entrepreneurship and creative industries.
