Abstract [sv]

Syftet med studien var att undersöka hur kvinnliga studenter med barn upplever och hanterar sin situation under studietiden. För undersökningen tillämpades en kvalitativ metod. Studien byggde på semistrukturerade intervjuer med tolv kvinnliga universitetsstudenter. De fyra teman som framkom var ”Att vara kluven i prioriteringar av studierna och barnet”, ” Ekonomisk otillräcklighet”, ” Coping-strategier” och ”Sociala nätverk”. Resultatet visade att respondenterna upplevde ett hinder i att förena rollerna som student och mamma när de ställdes inför utmaningar i vardagslivet på grund av tidsbrist/tidspress. Resultatet visade också att respondenterna använde liknande strategier för att hantera de svåra situationer som de ställdes inför i vardagen. Socialt stöd och ekonomiska resurser samt utövandet av aktiviteter var också betydelsefullt för samtliga kvinnliga studerande mammor för att kunna hantera svåra livssituationer.

Abstract [en]

The purpose of the study was to investigate how female students with children experience and manage their situation during their studies. A qualitative method was applied to the survey. The study was based on semi-structured interviews with twelve female university students. The four themes that emerged were "Being divided between the studies and the child", "Financial inadequacy", "Coping strategies" and "Support". The results showed that the participants experienced an obstacle to reconciling the roles as student and mother when faced with challenges in everyday life due to lack of time/time pressure. The results showed, among other things, that the participants also use the same strategies for dealing with difficult situations that they are faced with in everyday life. The social support and financial resource as well as exercising activities were also important for all female student mothers to be able to handle difficult life situations.
