The aim of this study is to research if the Swedish Migration Agency’s guiding documents regarding LGBTQ- asylum seekers contain expressions of heteronormativity and stereotypical perceptions. The study was conducted through Intersectionality theories and Queer Theories with a deeper focus on heteronormativity and stereotypes. The data consist of policy documents and guidelines for the Swedish Migration Agency that regards LGBTQ-related cases. The data was analyzed by using critical discourse analysis and the approach being Faircloughs three-dimensional framework. The results after analyzing the documents I found that heteronormative and stereotypical expressions and discourses where found in the documents. These discourses included heteronormative and stereotypical perceptions regarding expectations on the applicants’ feelings regarding shame, openness or hiding ones identity, coming out-process, physical attributes as well as when the applicant first realized their identity.
