The paper deals with the function that migration history on a personal level can have for forming of an identity, this with examples mainly from the TV production All for Sweden ("Allt för Sverige"), broadcasted in Sweden from 2011 and onwards. The Swedish-American experience is compared with life stories told by immigrants to Sweden of today. In the paper, the organization of Swedish-American historical research and of the institutes that have been working within this field is also presented and discussed.
