How do parents to children with special needs experience collaboration with school : A qualitative study about parents’ perceptions and experiences of the collaborations with school (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose was to investigate what experiences parents of children with special needs have of the collaboration with school. To answer the purpose, a qualitative web survey was conducted which consisted of open-ended questions. The results of the survey showed three prominent themes: "non-existent cooperation leads to high demands on parents", "lack of knowledge leads to inadequate treatment" and "the school does not take responsibility for adaptations and support those children need". The parents had different experiences of the collaboration with the school regarding their children's individual needs. The results showed that the respondents experienced both similarities and differences in the collaboration with the school and in how well school staff showed understanding for children and their different needs.
