Abstract

                      The purpose of the present study was to investigate how assistant nurses in home care experience their work in 2020. The criteria for participation in the study were that the participants completed an assistant nurse education, worked full time and that they worked in home care for at least three years. The number of respondents in the study is nine and they have been recruited from various workplaces within the municipal home care service. Data collection was done via semi-structured interviews. For processing of the collected data, a qualitative method was applied in the form of thematic analysis according to Braun and Clarke (2006). The thematic analysis generated six themes: More medical and social psychiatric tasks, Caring for clients, To experience inadequacy, To adapt to irregular working hours, To experience time pressure and many meetings with clients and Experiences that the profession has low status.

                      When the corona pandemic broke out in 2020, the assistant nurses describe how this made the work heavier and also made communication with clients more difficult. The pandemic has permeated the assistant nurses entire work situation in 2020, but it has not been a separate theme in this study.

Sammanfattning

Föreliggande studies syfte var att undersöka hur undersköterskor i hemtjänst upplever sitt arbete år 2020. Kriterierna för deltagande i studien var att deltagarna slutfört en undersköterskeutbildning, arbetade heltid och hen arbetat i hemtjänst under minst 3 år. Antalet respondenter i studien är nio och de har rekryterats från olika arbetsplatser inom kommunal hemtjänst. Insamlandet av data gjordes via semi strukturerade intervjuer. För bearbetning av den insamlade datan tillämpades en kvalitativ metod i form av tematisk analys enligt Braun och Clarke (2006). Den tematiska analysen genererade sex teman: Fler medicinska och socialpsykiatriska arbetsuppgifter, Omsorgen om klienten, Upplevelse av otillräcklighet, Att anpassa sig till ett oregelbundet schema, Att uppleva tidspress och många möten med klienter och Upplevelser av att yrket har låg status.

Då coronapandemin bröt ut 2020 beskriver undersköterskornas hur detta gjort arbetet tyngre och även försvårat kommunikationen med klienterna. Pandemin har genomsyrat hela arbetssituationen under 2020, men inte utgjort ett eget tema i denna studie.
