Abstract [en]
The purpose of this study is to interpret and analyze the works of the American photographer Nan Goldin. The study is specifically based on the works "Nan and Brian in bed, New York, USA, 1983" and "Couple in bed, Chicago, USA, 1983". The works are analyzed through Queer theory and with a semiotic method in order to examine how Goldin portrays feminine and masculine roles in artworks portraying heterosexual couples. The study shows that Goldin challenges gender stereotypes through the gaze, placement and posture of the subjects. The study also examines how presuppositions regarding the viewer plays a part in the works by Goldin.
