Abstract [en]
This study frequently touches on gender and gender equality work, which was introduced in Swedish schools during the 20th century. The study decided to start from the student's perspective to explore the students gender awareness in relation to physical education. In addition to explore how attentive gender and gender equality work take place in school. The hermeneutic research process has characterized the study, where the main motive was to create a deep understanding of the subject and what it is that turns out. With this theory, the results part cannot show a true picture of what gender awareness looks like in all schools, however, the study offers a clue as to what it might look like. The aim of the study is to explore high school students' views on gender and equality in relation to physical education. The study has identified three issues that have been analyzed to fulfill the aim of the study: What is the opinion of students about gender? Do you think one party benefits more than the other in the subject of physical education? How common is gender and gender equality noticed in the lessons?
As mentioned above, the study strives to fulfill a deep understanding of the subject, with that purpose, the data collection method has been designated. The study has conducted its research with the qualitative approach and semi-structured interviews have been designated to gather information. Five high school students have been interviewed, 3 boys and 2 girls of age 17-18. The results showed that gender and gender equality teaching in upper secondary school are lacking, where a lack of knowledge about gender is very high among students. It has been shown that the framework factor for this action is a lack of time, even though the students believe that the subject is current and interesting to learn about. Gender awareness among girls and boys differs a lot. The girls are more aware compared to boys. The boys gave a poor reasoning on the subject and considered that gender differences arise due to performance and low interest in sports within the girls. The girls, in turn, turned out to be significantly more gender-conscious than boys because they try to update themselves and learn about the subject on their own. In summary, all students surveyed state that gender and gender equality education in school is important, given that the subject is relevant and to create an interesting discussion, where one learns from each other's position.
