Bakgrund: Upplevelsen av oro inför en operation är vanligt både hos barn och deras föräldrar. Närvaron och föräldrars delaktighet kan hjälpa barnet att hantera den främmande sjukhusmiljön och minska barnets stress och oro. För att kunna stötta föräldrarna, behövs kunskap om hur de upplever den perioperativa vården. Syfte: Att integrera och syntetisera kunskap om föräldrars upplevelser av deras barns perioperativa omvårdnad. Metod: Den metod som användes var metasyntes. Kvalitativa artiklar söktes i databaserna CINAHL och PubMed. Tre artiklar inkluderades i metasyntesen efter urval och granskning och analyserades med inspiration av Noblit och Hares (1988) metaetnografi. Resultat: Tre övergripande teman sammanställdes: viktigt att vara delaktig i sitt barns perioperativa vård, vikten av information och känslor av att förlora kontrollen. Konklusion: När föräldrarna fick information inför-, under och efter barnets operation kände de sig tryggare och deras oro och rädsla minskade. De kunde förbereda barnet preoperativt, samt ha bättre förståelse för barnets vård postoperativt

Background: Feeling anxious about an operation is common in both children and their parents. The presence and involvement of a parent can help the child manage the foreign hospital environment and reduce the child's stress and anxiety. In order to support the parents, knowledge of how they experience perioperative care is needed. Purpose: The objective was to integrate and synthesize knowledge about parents´experiences of their children´s perioperative care. Method: The method used was metasynthesis. Qualitative articles were searched in the Databases CINAHL and PubMed. Three articles were included in metasynthesis after selection and review and were analyzed with inspiration from Noblit and Hare's (1988) metaethnography. Results: Three themes were compiled: important to be involved in their child´s perioperative care, the importance of information and feelings of losing control. Conclusion: When parents were informed before, during and after the child's surgery, they felt safer and their anxiety and fears decreased. They were able to prepare the child preoperatively and have a better understanding of the child´s care postoperatively.
