Abstract [en]

The aim of this paper was to explore and analyze the cashless society debate in Sweden.  To examine how discourses appear and positions in the public opinion debate, what meanings are attributed to the cashless society. A discourse analysis according to Faircloughs method was used, supported by the normative theory of official ethos in order to put the text and discourse practice into social practice.  The results of the study were that cashless society is articulated through five different discourses; Contingencies/preparedness, Safety, Integrity, Exclusion and Effectiveness. The meaning attached to the cashless society through these discourses was in the form of threats or opportunities. The way discourses were mixed in the discourse order showed that the positions were recreated and uphold.
