Abstract [en]

This thesis addresses why four teachers use reading aloud to their pupils as a method in the classroom, what they think of reading out loud as a method of teaching and if they see any changes in their students connected to it. According to the study these four teachers are positive when addressing reading out loud as a tool for teaching and that they believe that reading aloud can be used for many purposes. The study also shows that teachers use reading aloud to take different perspectives into the classroom, to work with value-based issues, inspire the pupils to get them to read themselves, and to create a relaxing environment for the students. Lastly the study shows that any changes in the pupils, related to the teacher reading out loud, include an increased interest in reading and gaining of new knowledge.

Abstract [sv]

Den här uppsatsen behandlar vad fyra verksamma lärare på mellanstadiet, som arbetar med högläsning, har för uppfattningar om fördelarna med högläsning, varför de väljer högläsning samt om de ser några förändringar hos eleverna som högläsningen bidragit med. Studien, som bygger på intervjuer, visar att de fyra lärarna har en positiv inställning till högläsning samt anser att högläsning kan användas i många olika syften. Studien visar även att lärarna använder högläsning för att ta in olika perspektiv i klassrummet, arbeta med värdegrundsfrågor och inspirera eleverna att själva bli läsande individer samt i avslappnande syfte. Studien visar slutligen att de effekter de ser som de kan koppla till högläsning är ökat läsintresse och kunskapsinhämtning.
