Socioeconomics and grade in physical education (English)
Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to increase the understanding about socioeconomic status for students and their grade in physical education in school. The study was carried out using quantitative methods in form of questionnaires sent to 118 students in a small city in Sweden. The study showed that socioeconomics, a family's educational level, occupational status and financial assets, had a bearing on students' grades in physical education. In Sweden, the middle class is the largest and so did the surveys show, but what was interesting was looking at the highest and lowest grades and what it looked like linked to high and low socio-economic status. There, it showed major differences between high and low socio-economic status linked to grades in sports and health. Students from families with high socioeconomic status have a higher grades, and students from families with low socioeconomic status have lower grades. It ́s significant what background a student comes from for the grade in physical education.
