The aim of this survey is to examine how the same phenomenon is perceived in different religious traditions and how the interpretation of archetypes can be influenced by different cultural contexts. The study is based on Carl G. Jung and Mircea Eliade’s theories about the archetype as universal to all human beings. The concept of the archetype is controversial and previous research indicates a paradox, where some scientists claims the archetype as biologically inherited, others as transmitted by culture. The method used in this survey is an explorative, interpretative interview study which is analyzed through a thematic strategy. The results from the interviews of six religious spokesmen from different faiths, aligned strongly with the hypothesis of previous research and indicated that the archetypes can be interpreted differently depending on the cultural context.
