Abstract [en]

Release the humour!

The educators´ perspective on humour in pre-school.

The purpose of the study was to explore the educators understanding of how important joy and humour are to the children’s wellbeing and as an aid to learning. The result of the study showed that the practitioner puts great importance on humour and enjoyment and would consciously include this in their preschool activities to enhance the children’s wellbeing and stimulate learning. The practitioner frequently explores opportunities and have strategies for this, such as free play, acting and roleplay, music and dance, creative activities like craft´s, planned humour interventions alongside and in cooperation with other practitioners, joking and laughter, adventure education,  movement, to learn to laugh at themselves, and to consciously focus on and present positive aspects, to use humour to comfort or distract and to create good feeling and a sense of togetherness amongst the participants.

Obstacles to learning and wellbeing are seen to be practitioners who do not appear to enjoy their work activities, rigidity of practice, lack of flexibility,  tension within the peer group, unhappy parents, stress, frequent interruptions, shortness of staff due to illness, the groups of children being too large, negative humour or humour that takes the focus from the learning objects or disturbs the order.
