Syftet med studien är att undersöka vilka uppfattningar och resonemang som femåringar har kring skräp och om de har kunskap om att olika sorters skräp hanteras olika. För att få reda på det har jag valt att intervjua 12 femåringar på en förskola. Resultatet visar att barnen har många praktiska erfarenheter både hemma och i förskolan samt en förmåga att resonera kring hantering av skräp. Däremot finns en bristande förståelse och ibland felaktig kunskap kring den didaktiska frågan varför man källsorterar. Ett fåtal av barnen nämner begrepp som återvinning och soptipp. Däremot beskriver alla aktiviteten återvinning och återanvändning med egna ord. Alla barn är också överens om att det inte är bra för djuren att slänga skräp i skogen då de kan göra sig illa, bli sjuka eller dö. Ingen av barnen reflekterar att skräp kan vara farligt även för växter och människor. Barnen menar att de framför allt har lärt sig om skräp via egna erfarenheter eller att någon har berättat om det. Ett par barn nämner även digitala spel och TV som kunskapskälla. En följd för förskolans undervisningssituationer utifrån resultatet är att vi behöver bli bättre på att gradvis öka utmaningarna i barnens görande och reflekterande kring hållbar utveckling.

The purpose of this study is to investigate what perceptions and reasoning fiveyear-olds have about trash and the handling of it. In order to find out I have chosen to interview 12 five-year-olds at a preschool. The result shows that the children in question have much practical experience both at home and in preschool, and an ability to reason about the handling of trash. On the other hand, there is a lack of understanding and sometimes incorrect knowledge regarding the didactic question of why sorting trash is important. A few of the children mentioned concepts such as recycling and re-use. However, everyone described recycling and re-use in their own words. All of the children also agreed that leaving trash in the forest is not good for animals, because they can get hurt, sick or even die. None of the children reflected on the fact that trash can also be dangerous to plants and humans. The children said that they have mainly learned about trash either through their own experiences or through someone telling them about it. A couple of children also cited computer games and TV as a source of knowledge. Based on the results, one consequence for the preschool's pedagogical situation is that we need to become better at gradually increasing the challenges within the children's activities and reflection regarding sustainable development.
