I en vanlig bokhandel idag kan du hitta titlar som Hjälp ditt barn med matte eller Matematik för föräldrar.  Dessa böcker har under de senaste åren växt fram på grund av att vårdnadshavare inte besitter tillräckligt med kunskap att hjälpa sina barn med matteläxan. Syftet med denna studie var att analysera dessa hjälpböcker och undersöka om de innehåller taluppfattning. För att få reda på detta gjordes en innehållsanalys av tre hjälpböcker. Två olika analysverktyg skapades utifrån en forskares definition av begreppet taluppfattning samt vad kursplanen i matematik anser att eleverna ska lära sig i skolan i årskurs 1–3. Resultatet visar att ingen av de tre böckerna som undersökts innehåller samtliga delar av taluppfattning. Det innebär att om vårdnadshavare bara förlitar sig på en av böckerna att hjälpa deras barn med matemiken kan viktiga delar missas. Resultatet visar dock att det finns vissa delar från taluppfattningen som förekommer ofta och är starkt representerad i böckerna, vilket tyder på att vårdnadshavare med hjälp av böckerna kan lära sina barn utveckla kunskaper inom vissa delar av taluppfattning.

In a regular bookstore today, you can find titles such as Help your kids with maths or Maths for mums and dads. These books have emerged in recent years because custodians do not have enough knowledge to help their children with their math homework. The purpose of this study was to analyze these help books and to examine whether they contain number sense. To find out, a content analysis of three help books was made. Two different analysis tools were created based on a researcher's definition of the concept of number sense and what the syllabus in mathematics believes that the students should learn in school in grades 1-3. The result shows that none of the three books examined contain all parts of number sense. This means that if custodians rely only on just one of the books to help their children with maths, important parts can be missed. The result, however, shows that there are certain parts of the number sense that occur frequently and are strongly represented in the books, which indicates that custodians with the help of these books can teach their children to develop knowledge in certain parts of number sense.
