Artikeln tar upp framväxten av en s k bondeherrgård i sydvästra Värmland, kopplat till etableringen av en större lantmarknad under 1700-talet och genom ägarnas kombination av jordbruk, handel och offentlig politisk verksamhet, från socken- till riksdagsnivå. Gården Nysäters historia kan skildras på detaljnivå genom ett välbevarat större arkiv från framförallt epoken 1820-1870-tal.

The article deals with the development of a farm (Nysäter) in the province of Värmland from about 1770 and until the beginning of the 1900s. It is one example of how succesful farmers take steps forward in economy and politics in a period when national and international links become ever more important also for the ups and downs in local societies.
