The debate on the ”democratic crisis” in short, means that the interest in politics is falling generally, particularly within the young population and the political parties are constantly losing members. Is this picture right? If so, does it really mean a crisis for democracy? The purpose of this study is to find out how young people perceive political participation, if they have any experience in getting involved politically and how they view their future political participation.

To bring the purpose of the survey to life, a qualitative semi-structured interview method is used to hear young people’s thoughts and reflections about political participation. The interview study uses relevant research to sort out the concept of political participation and current descriptions of citizens’ participation in general. Ekman and Amnå’s definition of political participation are the theoretical frame for the analysis of the collected data.

The results show that the pupils are for the most part, interested in societal issues and have a formal manifest view of political participation, which reflects a more traditional and limited view of political participation.

Debatten om den ”demokratiska krisen” innebär kort att intresset för politik sjunker i allmänhet men främst hos ungdomar och de politiska partierna tappar ständigt medlemmar. Stämmer den här bilden? Om den stämmer, innebär det verkligen en kris för demokratin? Syftet med undersökningen är att ta reda på hur ungdomar uppfattar politiskt deltagande, om de har någon erfarenhet i att engagera sig politiskt och hur de ser på sitt framtida politiska deltagande.

För att realisera syftet med undersökningen används en kvalitativ semistrukturerad intervjumetod för att höra ungdomars utsaga om politiskt deltagande. Intervjustudien använder sig av relevant forskning för att reda ut begreppet politiskt deltagande och nulägesbeskrivningar av medborgares deltagande i politiken. Ekman och Amnås definition av politiskt deltagande är de teoretiska utgångspunkterna för analysen av insamlade data.

Resultatet visar att eleverna till största del är intresserade av samhällsfrågor och har en formell manifest valdeltagandesyn på deltagande, vilket speglar en mer traditionell och begränsad syn på politiskt deltagande.
