"Reform EU" - A analysis of the Swedish Democrats change of position towards the EU (English)
Abstract [en]

SD has changed position towards the EU and no longer want to leave the union which is interesting since Swedes now are more positive than ever towards the EU-membership. The change of position is also interesting in relation to the new political situation in Sweden where a left-liberal agreement has been made in the Riksdag.

The purpose of this study was to analyze how SD has changed position towards the European Union. A subsidiary purpose was to analyze SDs change of position from a Rational Choice perspective.

The methods that were used in this study where a qualitative text analysis and a theory consuming analysis. The result and analysis of the qualitative text analysis showed that SD has gone from wanting to leave EU 2014 to wanting to reform EU from within 2019. The Rational Choice analysis suggests that SDs change of position can be seen as way to get more votes and to get closer to a collaboration with the center-conservative parties of the Riksdag.
