To give confirmation in singing lessons : An observational study of singing teachers use of semiotic resources in singing lessons at art school and high school (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to examine how confirmation is designed in singing lessons at arts school and high school. In the background chapter, previous research in feedback and confirmation is presented in different kinds of education styles. The design theoretical perspective constitutes the theoretical premise of this study, as it is the semiotic resources which are observed when confirmation is uttered. The study is based on the qualitative approach with video observation as method. Video observations were made at arts schools and high schools where three singing teachers combined were observed. The recorded material was then analyzed with a focus on the semiotic resources that the teachers use in their education when they give confirmation to the students. The results show that singing teachers use piano, body resources and the voice to give confirmation. It also shows that there are two different forms of confirmation – direct confirmation and indirect confirmation. The discussion illustrates confirmation with visible message and unclear or double message.
