: A quantitative study about the differences between twins and not twins regarding attachment styles and difficulties with differentiation from others (English)
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

The aim of the current study was to compare twins, nontwins and twins with other siblings regarding attachment styles and difficulties differentiation from others. A quantitative method was used, and data was gathered using a web-based survey. The sample consisted of twins and nontwins. Data was analyzed in a statistical analysis program using a six-way independent variance analysis. Results showed a significant difference between twins, nontwins and twins with other siblings regarding the attachment style subscale relationships as secondary. No significant differences were found between twins, nontwins and twins with other siblings regarding the subscales confidence, discomfort with closeness, need for approval or preoccupation with relationships, nor for difficulties with differentiation from others. This may indicate an insecure attachment pattern, which in turn could have a negative impact on interpersonal relations. Put together, this implies that more research is needed in order to implement relevant interventions including preventive methods.
