Sleep issues and coping strategies in female teachers : A survey of female teachers' experienced sleep issues and the relationship with coping strategies (English)
Abstract [sv]
Sammanlagt deltog 358 kvinnliga lärare i studien.
Abstract [en]
A cross-sectional study was conducted to investigate the relationship between sleep issues and coping strategies. Furthermore, the purpose was also to investigate whether working hours were a predictor of the experienced sleep problem. The population for the survey was female teachers in the Swedish school system. The survey was released in closed groups linked to classroom education at the social media portal Facebook. A total of 358 female teachers participated in the study. To measure sleep problems, the Insomnia Severity Index was used, as well as the Brief Cope measuring instrument for measuring coping strategies. Furthermore, the respondent was able to write in number of hours per week.
The study's question was answered with two pears correlation coefficients between sleep problems and problem-focused coping, as well as between sleep problems and emotion-focused coping. Furthermore, a simple regression analysis was carried out with sleep problems and working hours. The result showed a significant negative correlation between sleep problems and problem-focused coping, as well as an insignificant connection between sleep problems and emotion-focused coping. The regression analysis showed that working time was a significant predictor of estimated sleep problems.
The conclusion that was drawn was that teachers who use problem-focused coping to a greater extent experience less sleep issues. Furthermore, it was concluded that the degree of sleep issues can be explained to some extent by working time
