Abstract [en]

According to the Swedish School Act (SFS 2010: 800), school leaders and teachers in the goal-oriented school are supposed to follow up and analyze the school results in order to identifying development areas, thus increasing the goal achievement. Thus, the quality work is thought to serve as a guarantor that the development work is based on the specific school unit's needs. The conclusion in several knowledge and research reviews is that what teachers do in the classroom and the quality of teaching are the most important factors for influencing students' learning outcomes. The purpose of the present study was to investigate how teachers perceive that their classroom practice is influenced by the school's systematic quality work/ development work.

The study was a quantitative survey based on 41 teachers in the later years of primary school in a municipality in Sweden. The study concerns several areas such as school governance, with particular focus on governance through evaluation, systematic quality work and school development.

The result of the study showed that teachers largely perceive that the school's systematic quality work/development work is based on the needs of the specific school and is an outcome from an analysis of the school's own result. It also showed that teachers’ perception of the relevance of the development work has a strong connection with its influence on teachers’ classroom practice. However, classroom practice does not seem to be influenced to a large extent by the frequency, the basis and the way in which teachers follow up and analyze the activities regarding the students' knowledge outcomes.
