Kosovo albanska kvinnors syn på äldreomsorgen - en kvalitativ livsvärlds studie
2003 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]

The aim of this paper has been to gain an extended understanding of how Kosova albanians women, and their of view the Swedish way of working with elderly people, and the differences therein. The base of our paper comes from a qualitative method where four Kosova albanians women has been interviewed. The result shows that the women think that the social care of elderly people in Sweden is good, since it gives the elderly person and his/hers relatives a wider range of choice on what sort of help to get. On the other hand Sweden does not give the elderly person the same social status as in their home countries. Here in Sweden, the elderly persons knowledge, experiences and so forth goes unaccounted for, there is no use of them. The elderly persons own resources are unimportanted. The women also felt that their former experiences and educations goes unnoticed by their present employers. On the question on how the women view their work within the social care of elderly people, the answer from the interviewed women was, that they think there is a big lack of knowledge on their culture, which affected them as staff, as well as the elderly people under-social care. They also find the job to be stressful and lacking in resources which is not good for the”caring” part of this work. The result also shows that the women where satisfied with their work, they felt needed, they also look at themselves as a important resource in enlightening others about different cultures and in preventing prejudices in that area.
