Hur ska en bra lärare vara? - en undersökning i en Sydafrikansk skola
2005 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree)Student thesis
Abstract [en]

I participated in the journey to South Africa to collect information to my final exam. I wanted to study some South African teacher’s point of view how a good teacher is supposed to be. In this question I have examined the teacher role, general outlines for a teacher, parent co-operation and profession status. I made a figure of interviews during my time in South Africa. I observed the teacher’s, whom I interviewed, during their class and noticed how they handled the teaching and how the learners reacted to their methods. Another teacherstudent except me made the same study. We compiled all the interview questions and then listened to each others individual interviews, so that we both could get more depth in our work. This project shows that there is no simple answer how a good teacher is supposed to be. The way of teaching must be adapted to the teachers’ personality. All teachers’ have to adapt to the groups need, be open minded and have a keen ear. Even if it is the teachers’ personality which is supposed to reflect the way of teaching, you as a teacher must have in mind that it is really the learners development which are the main goal. This examination also shows that; it is not enough to be good at the actual teaching to call you a good teacher. The teacher role is much more to it.
