I have chosen to examine if there are gender differences in the free play in preschool and if so, how they appear. The reason for doing this is that I believe the guidance documents require this kind of awareness of me as a pedagogue. First I have completed a literature study and then conducted my own research at two preschools in western Sweden. The children in the research results where in the age of four to five years old. My result basically coincided with what previous research results have shown regarding gender differences in child play. Girls generally play more calmly whereas boys prefer more physical games. In role play the children takes different roles depending on which gender they have. However, the basis for my research result is too small for me to come to any generally applicable conclusions.
