This report deals with younger children learning science through storytelling. Four five year old children were interviewed on two occasions. The same questions were used at the two occasions. The first occasion was before I had told them a story. During the second occasion I told them and dramatized a story about the life cycle of the apple. After the storytelling was completed a second interview was performed. The results showed that all the children had learned something new. Two teachers that have much experience of storytelling were interviewed. Storytelling isn't only important when it comes to teaching, it can give the children much more, for example: Hope, better self-esteem, fellowship and much more. I believe that traditional oral storytelling is a cultural legacy that we should take care of and use as an educational method. Keywords: fairytale, children, science, storytelling.

Min uppsats undersöker, om yngre barn kan ta till sig nya kunskaper i no genom berättande. För att få ett resultat har jag intervjuat fyra femåringar, två gånger, jag använde mig av samma frågor vid dessa tillfällen. Första tillfället hade jag inte berätta något för dem, vi andra tillfället hade jag berättat och dramatiserat en saga om äpplets kretslopp. Efter berättandet var genomfört, hade alla barnen tagit till sig nya kunskaper. Jag har även intervjuat två pedagoger som har stor erfarenhet av berättande, Elisabet Härenstam och Susanne Wallan. Berättande är inte bara viktigt när det gäller inlärning, utan kan ge våra elever mycket mer, hopp, bättre självkänsla, gemenskap och mycket annat. Jag anser att det traditionella muntliga berättandet är ett kulturarv, som vi bör ta reda på och använda som en pedagogisk metod. Nyckelord: berättande, barn, naturkunskap, sagor.
