This essay is about children in grief. This subject is very big, therefore I have decided to concentrate my work on how children understand death in different ages, how their grief expressions are and how the school and the teacher can help them. In my essay I have come to the conclusion that the school has an important role for mourning children, because there are the ordinary routines and there they can work concretely with their grief. It can be through playing, drawing and painting, but also with other aesthetical subjects. The teacher has also a momentous role for children in grief. He must for instance lower his demands, listen and create sympathy for how the child can feel in its situation. It is good if the teacher dares to talk about existential questions in the class and let the child talk about its experiences. To help mourning children is about how the schools and the teachers should act and how their attitudes are. Keywords: Children and death, grief expressions, aesthetical subjects, adaptation, the teacher´s attitude
