The purpose of this essay is to study how teachers are working in the classroom with pupils’ self-confidence in the learning process of reading and writing. After I have been reading views and thoughts of several authors about the importance of self-confidence in the learning process of reading and writing, my main focus have been to get answers to the following questions. - How do teachers work to contribute to pupils’ self-confidence in the learning process of reading and writing? - What are the teachers’ opinions of different working methods? Considering my questions my methods were observations and interviews study with three teachers. One of the conclusions drawn from this study is that it is the individual success of the pupil in the learning process of reading and writing that results in an increased self-confidence. The teacher has to provide the pupils with the necessary condition for success by for example challenging them on the right level and concretely showing them their progress in a portfolio.
