This essay treats the subject of the teaching of religious festivals in compulsory school. Children today possess little knowledge about religious festivals, and therefore I see a need with the children to learn about it. I have read literature to collect knowledge about the different religious festivals in Islam, Judaism and Christianity, and I have also interviewed four teachers to collect information of their work on religious festivals. Three of the teachers work on public schools and the fourth on a Christian private school. I noticed that in school today, they work very little with religious festivals. The festivals they work with are the Christian festivals Advent, Christmas and Easter. I have found out that, as a teacher, I can work much more with the religious festivals, also those within Islam and Judaism, and I have drawn suggestions for classes on one Muslim, one Jewish and one Christian festival to give examples of how a teacher can work with them.
