Den lilla glesbygdskolan - en etnografisk studie
2005 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (professional degree)Student thesis
Abstract [en]

This is an ethnographical study of one small school in an thinly populated area of Sweden. The purpose of this examination paper is to make a small school an its day to day activities visible. I will try to understand how it is to be a student on this particular school. The method I have used is to make an ethnographical study of this school. I spent five days together with the students and made observations and talked to the students and the teachers. What I found was two themes: The first thing that I saw was that the students on this school had limited options in some situations. For example they had long bus rides to and from school, they had to go to another school to have the school subject handicraft and in some grades there were only two students. The second thing I found war a very genuinely positive social climate. It was very uncommon to se anyone without friends during the break and I hardly ever heard any harsh words between the students. Key words: ethnography, options, small school, social community, thinly populated area. Nyckelord: etnografi, glesbygdskola, liten skola, social gemenskap, valmöjligheter.
