The articles purpose was to find out whether if mathematical teaching material is equal and if it lives up to the demands of equality in the curriculum (Lpo –94). I made an examination on mathematical teaching materials to answer my questions. I examined how often boys and girls occur in texts, pictures and exercises. I also looked whether the teaching material deliberately or unconsciously contributes to maintain prejudiced gender pattern. The examination consists of eight mathematical teaching materials for the grades 1-5. The result of my examination shows that three of these eight books don’t live up to the demands of equality in the curriculum. Many of these books strengthen the traditional gender pattern and gives an old- fashion picture of boys and girls. My article consists of a method that you can use when you examine how equal your school is.
