This paper presents a survey that aims at showing to what extent students at the senior level of the nine-year compulsory school (Sw. grundskolans högstadium) understand Christian festivals. The Swedish school authorities emphasise the students understanding of traditions and festivals arising from the Christian religion. The Swedish society has been characterized by the Christian faith and its traditions and values for centuries . During the last hundred years there has been a transformation to a more objective perspective With this change the understanding of the Christian traditions has declined. The survey points out that even in a Christian school there is a lack of knowledge concerning the Christian festivals.
