Abstract [en]

According to present debate, students are reading less fiction. Teachers’ are looking into how they can encourage students to read more frecuently. To accomplish this the Swedish school must adjust the litterature courses according to the students’ present reading habits. This essay will therefore look at different elements that effects students’ reading habits and observe them in order to make necesary changes in litterary courses. This essay will define and compare reading habits among upper secondary students. The essay will also look at differences between gender and investigate if the parents education and reading habits has any effect on the students reading frecuency. Moreover, I will investigate the students’ source of inspiration when chosing books and where they find them. The essay will show how to adjust the litterary teaching to fit the demands of the modern student. Keywords: reading habits, upper class students, literature
