2002 (Swedish)Independent thesis Advanced level (degree of Master (One Year))Student thesis
Abstract [sv]

Abstract [en]

This scientific research discusses the differences in result concerning consumption of information (convergent problem solving) and production of information (divergent problem solving) between the two ways of presentation, paper and computer screen. The study also examines whether one way of presentation leads to a higher degree perceived stress and weariness than the other. The research was carried through at the university of Karlstad, the sample has been selected by an opportunity sample and a total of 144 students participated in the two studies. The convergent problem solving was examined with a reading test, the divergent problem solving was examined with the divergent test “Rubriker” (“Headlines”). Stress and weariness was measured with VAS. All data has been adapted in SPSS 10.0 The findings of the two studies shows that consumption of information, convergent problem solving, with computer aid gives an inferior performance and a higher degree of perceived stress and weariness compared to if the information is presented on paper. Production of information, divergent problem solving, with computer aid leads to a lower fluency compared to if the information is presented on paper. Key words Consumption of information, production of information, convergent, divergent, creativity, computer screen vs. paper, problem solving, stress.
