Yngve Ekström - mannen bakom århundradets möbel
2004 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]

Yngve Ekström is one of our most prominent furniture designers. In 1956, he created the Lamino armchair, which the Swedish people selected as the “Twentieth century’s best Swedish furniture design”. The simplicity and purity of the Lamino characterize many of the furniture by Ekström, who was a true functionalist. In the 1950s, “Scandinavian Modern” became a well-known concept and Ekström was one of its representatives with his functional as well as beautiful furniture. In 1945, Yngve Ekström and his brother started the furniture factory Swedese, which is still producing his furniture. Being both a designer and an entrepreneur, forced him to design furniture that was beutiful as well as profitable. The nature around him and music by especially Bach, were great sources of inspiration to him. But he was also influenced by other designers, for instance Josef Frank and Danes like Finn Juhl and Hans Wegner.
