Bråte - en herrgård vid Vänern
2004 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]

Bråte is a great estate, situated on a hill on the shore of Vänern, 17 kilometres north of Karlstad in a small village called Segerstad. The name “Bråte”, or “Brwtho”, was known as early as 1447 and in 1480 the manor belonged to the monastery Vadstena. The present buildings were erected in 1779 and are typical examples of the kind of architecture that was popular in Värmland in the late 1800:th century. The main building is a light, wooded, two-storey house with an interesting slated roof. The two wings on each side are painted in red, as are the stable, storehouse and several other outhouses. The estate has housed several noble families, such as Roos af Hjälmsäter, Echstedt and Cederström. Unfortunately, in the latter half of the 2000:th century, Bråte has been allowed to fall into disrepair and is since many years untenanted. But in spite of the present condition, the estate still gives a grand impression.
