Abstract [en]

BACKGROUND It has been a powerful expansion in the Equestrian sport during the last century. It is a sport that attracts young people as well as old. It is important to separate between riding at the riding school and riding with your own horses. Are you active with your own horses you spent several hours in the stable every day. The equestrian sport offers a wide register of directions and the possibility to select level. PURPOSE The equestrian sport is relatively not so much examined as a sport and for that reason a study about the value and meaning of equestrian sport can be of interest. The study illuminates how you as an active rider are influence through physical, psychical and social factors at the phase of involvement and at the decision to stay active. The study will also investigate what it is that catch and fascinates the active riders. METHOD This study tries to explain how the active riders think about the equestrian sport and the main practice and at the same time try to understand why they ascribe equestrian sport the importance that they do. To get such a balanced picture as possible, the choice of method fell on a hermeneutic basis with a touch of fenomenography and ethnography. The study is base on interviews with seven woman settled in Värmlands län, who are active riders with their own horses. RESULTS The result shows an interaction between physical, psychical and social factors. They also influence in different extent. The factor that only influence a little was the physical. The psychical wellbeing and social fellowship together with people and horses was the most valuable. It occurs to be a difference between the people who preferred riding as an exercise and the people who preferred it as competitive. The people who preferred riding as exercise priority social fellowships and the psychical wellbeing, while on the other hand, the people who preferred riding as competitive priority success at competitions. Finally, the seven women values physical, psychical and social factors, depend on what they want and what they want to reach.
