This paper is a survey of the internal communication at the municipality of Torsby. The purpose is through a quantitative questionnaire survey to investigate the employees experience of all internal communications, and illustrate how communication channels work and are being currently used. The population for this survey includes employees with managerial and supervisory positions, and a representative sample of the remaining employees at the municipality. The result shows that most of the employees consider that they are satisfied with the internal communication. Even the communication between employees and managers works well according to the majority. Verbal communication dominates. Which is positive, as it promotes more in person dialogue. Verbal channels enable a crossover of information creating a comparatively effective flow. However, too much verbal communication in the form of hearsay may dilute the focus of the subject matter. This may endanger the original communication as it potentially becomes un-uniform as it flows in different directions. The benefits, use and access to different information channels vary. It emerges that some channels are not functioning completely satisfactorily. The municipality needs to integrate the communication channels to make the communication more effective and to satisfy everyone’s requirements. If the municipality of Torsby do not dare to break habitual patterns, there is a risk that the municipality will continue as usual and follow the stream. If however they strive to row towards new destinations and reach their targets and vision, they need to adopt a more strategic approach to their work with internal communication.
