Lokalt kommunikationsarbete i en global tid - en studie av Corporate Social Responsibilty i Värmland
2005 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]

Over the past twenty years corporations influence on society has increased. This has led to a greater demand that corporations step outside the traditional roll and takes responsibility for the wellness in society. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is therefore high on the agenda. CSR means that corporations take a wider responsibility than what is demanded by law. This responsibility often is of social or environmental character. Most corporations which are working with CSR do so in order to encounter demands from their stakeholders and thereby strengthen their trademark. The purpose of this essay is to study how companies with branches in Värmland work locally with CSR. We have studied if the chosen companies work with CSR and if so, how they work with it. Furthermore we have studied the companies’ aims with the possible CSR activities and how CSR is managed in a communicative perspective. The empiric study is of qualitative and descriptive character and is carried out through semi structured interviews. The studied companies are among the largest employers in Värmland and the respondents have a local communication responsibility. We have been able to draw a number of conclusions from the interviews. All of the studied companies do more or less work with CSR related activities. However, only a few of them work in a coordinated and integrated manner. Most companies do not experience any scrutiny of their business. Some of the respondents mention that because of their status as business to business companies, CSR will probably not be of any greater importance to them. Other companies believe that CSR might be important to them in a near future, for instance when recruiting. In the study there are three appearing themes among the CSR activities. They are activities towards: the employees, the environment and sponsorship. The communication of the CSR activities is on a par with the extent and the type of the CSR activities performed. The companies range from only communicating the issues internally to working externally with activities such as press contacts and separate environmental and CSR reports.
