This essay discusses the most common errors uneducated producers, lay persons, or small companies, make when producing a product for print. This essay is to lay ground for a possible handbook in the area of print production. We have gathered the information about the producer’s errors through interviews with employees from printing houses. Everyday they encounter errors made by lay persons and have therefore a good understanding of which problems that should be focused on in a handbook. By studying literature in the areas of typography, layout, picture editing and the printing process we could come up with relevant questions. During the interviews we also found new types of errors that was not anticipated from the beginning. We used a qualitative interviewing method and the result of the information we gained were examined with a qualitative analyzing method. The result shows that the producers of printing material needs education in many of the areas and that there is a need of a handbook.
