Vi visste inte, hur kunde vi veta? - en tidningsstudie om informationen till svenskarna före och under andra världskriget
2003 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]

Aim and Method: The aim of this paper is to investigate how PR-practitioners within the Church of Sweden execute their work and which opinions they have on the term PR. The main theory used, is James E. Grunig’s Two-way symmetrical perspective. The research is based on a qualitative method using interviews with five PR-practitioners representing the three different levels within the Church of Sweden. Issues: How do the interviewed persons define the term PR, and how consistent are their definitions of the term with the theoretical definitions? What kind of PR-activities, categorised consistent with Grunig’s five models of public relations, do the practitioners use in their work, and why? What are the aims of the PR-activities, and is there a clear border between PR-activities and the main tasks of the organisation? What opinions do the interviewed persons have on ethical questions within their work? Results: Despite an overall positive attitude to the term PR, none of the interviewed persons use it about their own work, mainly because they think that their publics have a negative attitude towards the term. The work performed by the practitioners mainly belong to the information model, and they do not have the presuppositions to work according to the symmetrical or asymmetrical two-way model. The overall aim of their work, is to spread the word of Christ, but also to supply presuppositions for good personal meetings to take place between their publics and the representatives, in the main tasks of the church. The interviewees’ opinions about how to work ethically, are: to be trustworthy, honest and open in their relations with the publics.
