En kristen röst i mediebruset - urval och bearbetning av TT-nyheter i Nya Dagen
2001 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]

”Nya Dagen” is a Christian daily paper, which ambition is to publish news carrying churchly, religious and human dignity content and to give a concise account of yesterday’s most important news. Like many other small daily papers, Nya Dagen is dependent on ”Tidningarnas Telegrambyrå” (TT), Sweden’s largest news agency, to be able to publish home news as well as foreign news. The purpose of this investigation is to examine how Nya Dagen picks out and revises news from TT and also to find out if the Christian profile affects the revising and valuation of the TT-news. The investigation is based on theories about News values, Gatekeeping and Journalistic form as well as theories about the way the usage describes and interprets the reality. We have compared news from TT published in Nya Dagen with the original news-item from TT using a qualitative content analysis with the elements of a quantitative analysis. The analysis indicates that all the news from TT published in Nya Dagen have been revised in some way. A common way of revising short news items is to shorten the headline and to cut most of the text. Sometimes this had lead to a different slant in the news. A common way of revising articles is to restate the headline and to add an introduction and headings. Only a few articles has been given a different slant after Nya Dagen’s revising, but in those cases churchly and religious aspects have been accentuated. The Christian profile is mostly visible in the articles. Almost every article deals with churchly, religious and human dignity content. The Christian profile doesn’t affect the selection of short news items in a notable way. The short news items deal with current events in different areas such as politics, society and economics.
