2001 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]

This essay is written in the purpose of trying to define the new society where information technology and communication are the main keys to personal and organizational development. It also concerns both possible positive and negative effects and consequences that this new society brings for the professional information managers. The form of the essay is a descriptive literature study and most sources are written texts and research material of scientific art. Some newspaper articles and Internet sources have been used. The main questions of the essay are as follows, 1. What characterises the new society of information technology and communication? Which new threats and opportunities can be seen? 2. How can the professional information managers be described through the history and in what way have the profession been changed during the years? 3. With the increasing information access for the members of the information society, how will the professional information managers have to change their working conditions so that they will be able to make themselves heard? The conclusion is that the new society of information technology and communication has a major impact on the professional information managers working conditions. New methods are at hand and the main problem is to make them work and to make the management aware of the importance of this work and to make them invest in the information and communication departments. Keywords in this context are globality and working economically with information. Both new possibilities and threats can be seen in the information society and for the conditions of working with information and communication as a profession.
