On January the first 2000, a new regulation came into force in Sweden. The regulation demands that a company must have a safety adviser if they are engaged in the carrying trade of risky goods. The supervising authority for the observance of the laws is the Swedish Rescue Services Agency. During the spring of 2000 the Swedish Rescue Services Agency gave us the commission to evaluate the spreading of information regarding the new regulation. Furthermore the purpose of the study was to investigate the companies who had announced that they had a safety adviser; * what line of business they were in * how they had been informed of the new regulation * and which of Swedish Rescue Services Agency´s channels of information they have received information from. Through the study of the companies we have identified differences between how information have reached different line of businesses, and how the channels of information work. Also companies who have been participating in our study have informed us about that other sources, than Swedish Rescue Services Agency have been providing them with information about the new regulation. During the study, we have also learned which of Swedish Rescue Services Agency´s channels of information the companies required information from in the future. We consider that the results of the study have given some valuable knowledge, which may be used to improve the communication between Swedish Rescue Services Agency and the companies concerned by the regulation.
