Superhjälteserien i Förändring 1939 till 1999
2000 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]

This essay is about comic books as a medium. We look at the factors that have contributed to the changes in superhero comics and how the genre has matured since 1940. We focus in particular on the two biggest publishers of superhero comics and their most popular titles. Also addressed is the subject of gender representation, especially with respect to ideals and aesthetics. We have found that the comic book genre commonly associates beauty with the moral category of "good" and, conversely, evil with "ugliness." The first chapter provides a summary of the major titles discussed in the course of this paper. The two sections that follow discuss the factors that have contributed to the major changes in the history of comic books. First is the telling of the story which include dramaturgy, perspective and the written text. The next section deals with images in terms of colour, shading, the shape of the comic panel and the characters' bodies and movements.
