Gudrun Schymans alkoholproblem som nyhet - en innehållsanalys av två svenska dagstidningar
2000 (Swedish)Independent thesis Basic level (degree of Bachelor)Student thesis
Abstract [en]

Our essay deals with the 1996 reporting in Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter of Gudrun Schyman and her disclosing in the media about her alcoholism. We have done the study in two ways. First we have done a content analysis, which is combined with both quantitative and qualitative research methods. This content analysis is done on the articles published 020996-170996. We have also done two interviews, one with a journalist from each newspaper. These are done because we wanted a deeper understanding in our content analysis. The conclusions we have come to in this study are that the news about Gudrun Schyman and her alcoholism received great attention in both Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter. Dagens Nyheter focused more on the political points of views and Aftonbladet focused more on Gudrun Schyman as a person. Aftonbladet had a more varied discussion about the way media treated Gudrun Schyman and why they didn’t write before. We have also found similarities in the reporting. Both newspapers wrote about Schyman’s future as a party leader. They used in most of the cases quotations from the members of her party and the spread of the subjects in the articles are almost the same. Both Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter have dramatised the reporting by writing about a struggle for power within the party, that according to Gudrun Schyman and other members of the party never has existed.
