Abstract [en]

The aim of this study is to investigate some teachers’opinions about using the Functional Music Therapy, FMT- method in compulsory school for pupils with learning disability.

 

Research questions that have guided the study are: Which abilities does the FMT- method give the students the prerequisites to develop according to the teachers? Which learning theories appear according in the teachers opinions of the FMT- method?

 

The theoretical basis for this study is theories of learning. The ones that are used are behaviorism, cognitive traditions, pragmatism and socio-cultural perspective.

In order to collect data, the qualitative interview has been used. The study is based on interviews with five teachers that educate students with multifunctional disabilities in compulsory school for pupils with learning disability. The overall result of the study of the FMT-method suggest that music therapy according to the teachers opinions have a positive effect and contribute to develop communication, body-function, social, cognitive and emotional abilities. To communicate is the ability that all teacher mentions as the most developable using the FMT- method. This result is in line with previous research in the area as shown in the research overview. The educational explanatory models to describe the FMT-method can be found in three of the four learning theories, behaviorism, cognitive traditions and socio-cultural perspective.
