Abstract [en]

The purpose of this study is to find out how teachers communicate with children about physics and technology in preschool education. The teachers attitude towards physics and technology, the open questions, and which concept are used in preschool education are examined in this study.

The study was conducted through qualitative semi-structured interviews and unstructured observations of children and teachers. The observations were carried out in a planned activity in which children and teachers were making blow sticks and blowing soap bubbles. The interview was enforced directly after the observations. The communication between teachers and children was the starting point of this study, how teachers communicate with children in the preschool education of physics and technology.

The result of the study shows that teachers has various level of knowledge in physics and technology. The study shows that teachers practices open question to investigate the ideas of the group of children, but only a few teachers do challenge the children in their learning of physics and technology. All teachers do believe that it is important to use concepts in preschool education. How the concepts are being used is varying, the result of this study shows that concepts are often being left out in preschool education of physics and technology.
